Finished front cover magazine

I feel impressed about the front cover as it looks good and taken a lot of time and effort, I have changed some of layout to how I originally wanted it this is because i realised that there was no eye catching feature included on front cover so then I added in a Pug which you can see is in a red circle, it relates to a freebie which readers would get attracted to and it easily draws attention, the artist name is enlarged and the cover lines show the three genres are represented in the music magazine whilst going with the overall special edition theme of the magazine( which is Bhangra and Vasakhi blending in music and lifestyle). Overall I think it looks good all the cover lines go with what the magazine is aimed for, it show a blend of lifestyle and music, more importantly its aiming both genres girls and boys; i did this by adding the girl on front cover (rather than having a male music star as in the Bhangra scene there are less female stars as shown in my research of music tribes) as well as the freebies are music related and gives the impression I wanted that this music magazine is music focused. As its aimed at all South Asians it was very important to show that other features in the magazine includes Bollywood and Urban Desi not just Bhangra even if it is a special edition, so i still added in the left third the cover lines to do with the associated genres. Furthermore, in the contents page the cover lines are mixed matched so new audience to other genres in the magazine can get a flavor of what that genre has to offer or interest, making more it more interesting and new for readers (for example not putting all one genres cover lines altogether as it look more boring, however on other hand I seen it as easy to find what you are interested in, but this was not the approach i was looking for but more of a discovery into the magazine to interest).

I have now Finished off my second page article

I have now included onto the page logo and number with the strip (the same way i did for the first page of article). The second page of the article is now finished and was one of the hardest pages to create, I faced through a lot of issues such as, not fitting in all the images I planned on adding in, cropping remainder of the images, and adding into the article in word and making it stand out rather than overcrowded as i was left with little room as images had taken over most of the space of the page that was planned to be for left for the word article. I have left a few images not cropped to give the effect of photo shoot and 'exclusive' behind the scene feel, this was necessary for me as in my feedback of what South Asian teenagers would want to see the most was features and photos of music stars so it was very important to achieve this aim. The colour scheme went well as it went with the magazines genre colour 'Bhangra' which is always in orange also the white made more focus on the article and yet more attracting to images, the page numbers are orange as the special edition of the magazine is based around a Bhangra artist. The page small strip i included in contents and both double page article was to show the actual magazine theme colours are orange, pink and purple not to get new readers confused with the colour scheme, also i added in the logo which was too important. It was a bit of a downside to add in the page strips as it was a double page article pull out wallpaper for fans of Kiran.H (not giving the whole wallpaper effect) however, it was necessary to do this as leaving this out would not represent a DMC article and show copyright to it however with careful consideration I made sure that readers could cut the bottom of the page where the DMC logo and page number is shown to give article effect by leaving space. Overall I am impressed that I have achieved the aim even though i was planning to add in the image of the interview and more photo shoot images however I believe I still achieved the special features such as photo shoot imaging and the actual double page article focused on the music star.

My new flat plan of double page article

I changed my mind on the layout of the double page article as it the colours before did not attract the audience to read and the orange text blended into the background, now I have filled in the text box as orange and font colour as white making text stand out more. The picture layout had to be reconsidered as it all would not fit onto page so I decided to rearrange imaging making it not confusing instead more easy to follow. I am going to be adding few images than before I officially decided as shown in my previous posts and will not be using all the photography I posted online. The images in my opinion and i confidently can say do go with the article; the first image which will be on the first page of the article on the top half the page will be of the recent interview by DMC (picture taken by on day of interview) this will give and achieve my aim of giving a professional interview and article page of what happened and moreover a feature of what the artist was wearing and what new trends she is following (this can be also classed as special feature going into readers wanting to know how stars lifestyle especially fans). The bottom half of the page will have the article the article will be in 2 columns the first column there will be information on the artist this is to recap on who this artist is where she is based (general facts) this can be useful for people who have not heard of artist and can still learn knowledge on the star regardless how long they have been famous, then there is an image of her in her previous interview to show how she is changed and progressed and gives readers a reminder if they read a previous article of her from DMC. These are key features I believe to interest readers into article and a good layout, furthermore more interesting. The logo and the page number on the small strip which is colour coded in three different colours is a symbolism of copyright showing this article and creation of the magazine is created by DMC and is important to show to new readers that this magazines colour scheme is not white and orange but pink orange and purple (this is also shown through the logo letter representation of magazine name 'Desi music culture' which represent these colours, for example letter 'D' being orange, letter 'M' as pink and letter 'C' as purple). The second page of the double article is on all the future and present event the artist will be doing or planning (this is again making layout more easy to read and flow causing no confusion with her past events in other words I done a symbolism of article continued on a new page meaning a new chapter). This is where all the recent images of the photo shoot will be scattered around the page. Overall I am happy that I have designed a new flat plan with new thoughts and ideas and have not continued my old flat plan, I felt the aim of the double page article would not have been achieved and as I tried creating it, in the end I was not as confident and did not feel it would meet requirements of the AS course to look as if it was a professional music magazine standard, but now I am happy that I reconsidered the changes as it had taken time and effort to go through the process I was in before.

So far on front cover the changes made.

I have now added in headings to the genres the cover lines (I will soon be adding to the magazine) belong to. I will need to get rid of the box which is around the page, as this makes it look very unprofessional. The cover lines will be done from a different software as Indesign does not have it and I have already began to create some of the text on the other software which is used on my magazine (photo shop) I will be transferring over the final work and all editing will be done on Indesgin, however picture editing and logo creating has been done on other software and I have screen shot this in my previous posts as evidence of my own work.

My finished first page article.

I have now completed the first page of my double paged article. I will be posting up my new flat plan soon as a created a new one due to change of mind of how I previously wanted it therefore is different to my previous flat plan of double first page article. I changed the colour of font and the colour of the text box, as before it was originally orange font but white font box (now its changed by the colour scheme being other way around orange font box and white font). there are only two image on this page one next to the artist name of artist shot when interview was taken
and other is of previous interview under the first column (there are two column on first page of the double article. I have not added any writing under the artist name but done so under photo (there is no description of any photo as it is a pull out wallpaper and it would not give the effect of this feature). I have got a page logo, number and small strip at bottom of the page this is to show what the actual theme of the original DMC magazines are when there are no special editions and not to get new readers confused that the colour scheme is orange and white. The downside of the creation is the traditional logo and page number on a 'Pull out wallpaper article' however fans can cut this off as i have left space to do so, another reason to have this was to show that this article page is designed by DMC and is copyrighted so images can not be copied by other editors of other music magazines and class them as their own.

The screenshots of change of layout and colour (first of double page article)

As you can see in the first screen shot I am changing the text colour and have already gone though almost completing the change of the text box colour, in the second screen shot I am shown continuing this on to the second column and moving the image form the top half to the bottom half in the first column. I used the software Indesgin to go through this part of the process.

Changes made to the second page of double paged article

I will be posting up the new flat plan of the reconsidered double page article, in comparison to my previous flat plan, the imaging I had posted up on my blog previously only some will be used and the image of the interview with two people (star and interviewer) has not been included as there is not enough space and would of look too overcrowded if attempted causing the layout to look unprofessional. some images were cropped others weren't to give the effect of a photo shoot and a bit of a collectors fan item (special feature) as its a wallpaper. As you can also see I have changed the colour scheme to white font and orange font box to make article stand out more and more easier to read as before it blended in to the background I kept the white background to give a strong stand out effect on article and images also carrying out the orange and whit theme show in the front cover end contents page (although the contents page is white it has a the traditional theme of the magazine to show this is a special edition therefore new colour scheme supporting the genre of music the edition is based around or on the genre the star is from.

Nearly finshed page

The page just needs the bottom page number with the logo which I will be finishing off soon. I will now continue with remainder of the magazine (front cover). I feel the magazine has taken time to do I am disappointed in the fact I could not add in more images, however this could be a good thing to keep article page looking stylish but simple. I have completed the new flat plan design which I will post on blogger shortly.

So far the magazine double page article

This is a rough template I designed, I will continue with this by adding in the article and photo shot pictures overall this will take time to produce to a good excellent standard.

Article double page

Kiran H was a normal average teenage girl who lived in Handsworth, Birmingham. At age 16 she signed on to her first record deal with HM records, since that day her life has been changed dramatically and is now no face of a Handsworth girl but a new face of the first ever youngest British female artist in the music scene.

Three years on and now she is 18 she’s collaborated with various artists and has even welcomed the new artists to the Bhangra scene ‘Alyssia’, had three albums out ‘Rulez for Boyz’ entering the top UK charts at number 1, ‘Story of ma lyf’ number 5 in the UK charts and the song ‘Dil de khaniye’ nominated the best video of 2006. Being yet a YOUNG Asian Bhangra artist and to make it at number one in the UK charts is a definitely a good look but she didn’t just stop. This month she has organised a Vasakhi Mela featuring herself amongst other acts at her home town Handsworth not only that she’s working on other projects with artists such as Jay Z and coming out with her own album.

The Mela is going to take place in Handsworth Park on Sunday 24th April 10am. There be food and drinks on sale to eat from Chinese to traditional Indian. We also would be having a look at the clothes show display of Asian clothes and western fashion and loads of gifts and prizes to win. Rides are also expected to be there is as well as live performances from Kiran H, Punjabi Hit squad, Alyssia, Tiger style, Jay Sean, Zeekay and Raghav also special showcase of Dhol players with Bhangra dancers. There also be of course information of Sikhism and displays of how and why is Vasakhi celebrated around the world and the day to be marked in the Sikh calendar.

DMC: Organising the event surly must be exhausting especially with music project and on top you performing live! How do you feel?

KIRAN H: Yeah definitely its exhausting work especially when you collaborating with American artist Jay z and then I am organising this event in the UK, I’m actually quite excited on the whole as I know this mela is going to be big.

DMC: You saying that you collaborating do you mean you coming out with another album? Spill.

(laughter)

KIRAN H: Yeah I am coming out with a new album and hopefully it should be releasing this summer but that’s all I’m saying.

DMC: What made you organise this event? Any particular reason?

KIRAN H: I felt its important not to forget religion and culture as sometime we do also I have always had faith in my religion to help me even in the bad difficult stages of my life, so I thought the mela would not only bring the Sikh community together but other communities to share the importance of Vasakhi as it is one of the important events in the Sikh calendar.

Screenshot of second double page creation

Here I am sorting out the imaging and the article to add on to the second page of double page, Everything is slowly coming together however I am trying to figure how to get all this information and edited photos on to the template I have created and make it look almost identical to my flat plan. I have used Photo shop to edit the images and will be transferring these to Indesign.

How my contents page is looking now that it is completed

I have added in the image and is now complete, overall I think it looks good and result have came out good.

The final screeenshots of creation of magazine contents

These are now final screen shots of how I edited the pictures I included on to the contents page, I have filtered the backgrounds of the image into the colour of the genre they belong to as shown in screen shots. I will be changing the image in the purple box as it temporarily there and is not official image and is not my own, the reason why I temporarily used it is as example of what I will be doing until I add the original one.

How the contents of magazine is looking so far

All thats left now to do is finish the images on the contents page and add editing as you can see there are green bits at the bottom of the page.

Screenshots of creation of contents page

The contents page has came together very good, I am really impressed at the moment I think this the part I probably enjoyed the most however there is more of the magazine to complete, all that's left is adding the images next to the cover line, I probably adding two as it will get too over crowded also i want to create more attention on the main star which is the girl enlarged on the left third easily giving the impression she is the main girl and is the star in the article in this edition. I had made the contents page on photo shop as a lot of editing was required and I will be transferring for remaining editing to Indesign software.

How the first page double page article is looking now

I feel very impressed it taken a lot of time to sort the layout as I was not too sure about where the artist name should be placed, once i decided everything had come together, the picture in the magazine is of the previous interview which links with the article of whats she done and her past achievements (giving that effect), the following page which i will begin will have plans on what the artist is to do in the future making this article page easy to read and flows nicely too. Once i have completed my second page I will be adding the special feature for buyers of the photo shot images as it is a double page pull out wallpaper for fans. I will be screen shoting the editing of the pictures which will be going on this page soon once began and in process.

First of double page creation screenshots
